Buford Joseph Autin Sr., M.D., 90 years and three months, a native and resident of Houma, died at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his son, James Autin, M.D., and wife, Jan, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and John Gibson Autin and wife, Jill, of New Orleans; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Chauvin Autin; his two sisters, Audrey Buquet and Mildred A. Cleckler; one brother, James C. Autin; and seven grandchildren, Andre Elizabeth Autin LeBlanc, Sherri Lynn Autin Dugas, Tricia Clare Autin, Erin Autin, Jamie Autin, Kelsay Autin and Heather Elizabeth Brown; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hathorn Autin; his parents, Gibson Joseph Autin Sr. and Felician Jean Dufrene; his grandfather, Gibson Paul Autin Sr.; his grandmother, Feliciane Cantrelle; one son, Buford Joseph Autin Jr.; and three brothers, Gibson J. Autin Jr., Lloyd Autin and Arnold A. Autin.
He was a family doctor and general practitioner since 1948. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in World War II.
