A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg for Bert Joseph Redmond, 90, who passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 5, 2015, at his home in Lafayette.
Visitation will be held, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma and resume on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 9:00 am until time of service, at St. Ann Catholic Church.
Entombment will be at St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery in Bourg.
Bert was born March 3, 1925 in Houma where he lived for most of his life and resided in Lafayette for a little over 2 years. He was a World War II Veteran in the 364th Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Pine Tree Division, where he served from 1943-1945 in Milan, Italy and received the Bronze Star. He retired from Texaco with more than 35 years as a purchasing agent. Bert was a Notary Public and an Income Tax Consultant. He was also on the Board of Advisors for First Federal Savings and Loan Association, a Special Deputy with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and was a past Commander of the American Legion Post in Montegut. Bert was a Justice of the Peace in Ward Six for many years. Prior to ill health, Bert was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ann Mae Tregre Redmond of Lafayette; his daughter, Marleen King and her husband, Lee Roy of Lafayette; his son, Steven Redmond and his wife, Dianne of Covington; his sister, Nell Authement of Houma; his grandson, Dr. Jeff Redmond and his wife, Rochelle of Mandeville; his grand-daughters, Jennifer Stringer and her husband, Tim of Mandeville, Robin Brunet, Annie Salazar and her husband, Jeremy of Breaux Bridge and Kimetha Broussard and her husband, Chad of Katy, TX; two great-grandsons; nine great-granddaughters; six great-great-grandchildren and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Adele Chauvin Redmond; his son, Rudy Jon Redmond; his brothers, Ivy, Sr., Jess, Jasper and David "Possum" Redmond, Jr. and his sister, Elaine McCarron.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Staff of Heart of Hospice in Lafayette and to his wonderful caregivers for the compassionate care given to Bert and his family.
