Beatrice Darcey Babin, 97, died peacefully at Heritage Manor of Houma Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008.
Funeral services will be private for family and friends at a later date.
She is survived by one sister, Lucille Cunningham; two nephews, Ronald Cunningham and Kenneth Darcey; two nieces, Carol Cunningham and Jeanette Darcey Savoie, as well as several beloved great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Babin; her parents, Jules an Julia Darcey; three brothers, Vesta, Milton and Nolan Darcey; one nephew, Charles Cunningham; and one great-nephew, Craig Cunningham.
In 1943, Bea and her brother Nolan bought Bob’s Café on Main Street in Houma. Bea took on the task of doing all the cooking. As World War II raged on, servicemen from nearby military bases frequented Bob’s Café for delicious and economical plate lunches. Because of her soft heart and charitable nature, a request for something to eat was never refused to those who could not pay. After her marriage, her husband, Philip, helped manage the café with her. Little Bea stayed with the work she loved until failing health forced her to give it up in her mid-80s.
Beatrice will always be remembered for her generosity and kindness to others. She will be sorely missed by the family she leaves behind.
