Amanda Rita Ellender Hummel

Amanda Rita Ellender Hummel, 87, a native and resident of Pointe Aux Chenes, died at 5:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008. Click to enlarge Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. She is survived by four sons, George A. Hummel Jr., and wife, Shirlene, Paul A. Hummel and wife, Iliana, Thomas A. Hummel and wife, Susan, Timothy A. Hummel and wife, Sheri; one daughter, Diane H. Taub and husband, Leon; one sister, Wilma E. Brown; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George A. Hummel Sr.; her parents, Harrison Ellender and Margueritte Guidry Ellender; one son, Gerald Hummel; one brother, Harrison “Dooney” Ellender; and one sister, Hilda Ellender. She retired in Pointe-Aux-Chenes 30 years ago in her parents home. She was a retired registered nurse and a graduate of Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She also helped serve as a nurse to family and friends all her life. She was a member of the Lions Club, a Eucharist Minister, a Lector, and a religion teacher in her parish and a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred.
