Harold “Black” Anthony Pitre, 77, a native of Terrebonne and resident of Houma, died at 10:21 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Chauvin Funeral home. Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Trahan Pitre of Houma; two sons, Wayne Pitre and wife, Gaynell, of Montegut and Christopher John Pitre and wife, Jeannie, of Houma; one daughter, Hollie Eschete and husband, Billy Sr., of Montegut; eight grandchildren, Joshua Pitre, Kelly Pitre, Rusty Pitre, Billy “B.J.” Eschete Jr., Tiffany Pitre, Katie Eschete, Dustin Pitre and Kenneth Pitre; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benard Pitre and Anicia Hebert Pitre; three brothers, Jules Pitre, Aaron Pitre and Albert Pitre; and five sisters, Libby Burch, Ilene Bonvillain, Elsie Mae Porche, Janette Buquet, Jennie Bergeron.
He was a self-employed carpenter and fisherman. He was a U.S. Marine veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9608, a past commander of the Marine Corps League and a member of the East Park Recreation and Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
