George Paul Fournier, Sr., 90, died Monday, February 2, 2015 at 8:55AM. He was a native of Houma, LA and resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. Burial: St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2. He is survived by his, sons, George P. Fournier, Jr. and wife Annette McElroy, and Timothy J. Fournier and wife, Diana Rhodes; daughter, Brenda F. Doiron and husband, Eddie, Jr.; brother, Russell Fournier; sisters, Georgia F Hebert and Barbara F White; grandchildren, Jessica (Beau) Wright, Michelle (Royce) Pellegrin, Angele (John) Poiencot, Eddie (Megan) Doiron III, and Nicole (Scott) Kraemer; 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his, Wife of 66 years, Yvonne Smith Fournier; parents, Onazippe Joseph and Clemence Breaux Fournier; brothers, Elmer Fournier, Urbain "U.J.", Louis, Onazip "Jr." and Daniel Fournier. He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. He retired from Texaco after 34 years. He was a drilling Consultant for 8 years in Louisiana and Texas. He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII with the 4th Marine, 23rd Div. 2nd Btln., Co. E in four major battles including Iwo Jima, receiving a purple heart and a bronze star. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus council 1317. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and cooking. Special thanks; to Father Wilmer Todd, his good friend and fishing buddy, the entire staff of The Oaks of Houma and Dr. Ray Cinnater and his staff. In lieu of flower donations to the Regional Military Museum, P.O. Box 10247 , Houma, LA 70363 would be gratefully appreciated.
