Bernice Mae Brieden, 98, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 10:35 AM. She was a native of Hondo, TX and resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 9:00 AM service time at First United Methodist Church. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in Garden of Memories Cemetery She is survived by her, sons, Philip "Butch" August Brieden and wife, Jane Coulon, and Michael Lee Brieden, Sr. and wife, Sarah "Marie" Suber; daughter, Phylles Brieden Lagarde and husband, James E.; grandchildren, Brian J. Lagarde, Lauren L. Champagne, Michael L. Brieden Jr., Jennifer B. LeBoeuf, Mary Helen Brieden and Desiree' B. Cortez; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn R. Lagarde, Hannah L. and Mollie A. Champagne, Erin N. and Joseph L. LeBoeuf, Katherine B. Cooper and Jordan Dion; great-great-granddaughter, Krystal Dion; brother, Donald H. Sorrells and wife, Waynette; and sister, Louise S. Evans. She was preceded in death by her, husband of 33 years, August Philip Brieden; parents, James "Lee" Pinckney Sorrells and Ethel Evie Fuller Sorrells; brothers, Olan L., George H., Gilbert L. and Harold E. Sorrells; sisters, June S. Parham and Edith S. Merry. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an independent, caring lady with a pioneer spirit. One of nine children, she grew up in San Antonio, Texas. "Mrs. B." was a homemaker for 33 years until her husband's death in 1965. She went to trade school to prepare herself to take care of her sons. God and her family were always the most important things in her life and her greatest joy was to be surrounded by her grandchildren. She loved to cook, sew, crochet and do crossword puzzles. After retiring from the City of Houma in 1981, she volunteered at Terrebonne General Medical Center for ten years. She then worked part time at the St. Vincent de paul Thrift Store for twenty years, retiring on her 95th birthday. One of her greatest joys was "crocheting lap robes for the old people". She was still young in heart and mind. She will be missed by her loved ones.
