Dewey "Druis" Joseph Lirette, 90, a native and resident of Chauvin, died at 12:28 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Monday, Jan. 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his loving spouse of 67 years, Ismay Lirette; sons, Brent Lirette and wife, Shannon, of Houston, Texas, and Melvin Lirette and wife, Carol, of Houma; daughters, Susie Boudreaux and husband, Felton, of Chauvin, Peggy Lirette, of Chauvin, and Merril Levien and husband, David, of Pleasant Hill, California; sisters, Thelma "Tenu" LeBlanc and Elphie "Tootsie" Theriot; grandchildren, Michael and Bill Levien, Rachel DiStefano, Kristee Hukill, Temi Little, Jena Belanger, Kerry Trosclair, Kurt and Kyle Zamarripa, Teri, Greg, and Sean Boudreaux, Kim LeBouef, Cindy Dubois, Taryn Ugas, Stacie Kilgore, Jaime Stuart and David Allemand; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Moise Lirette and Augusta Authement Lirette; daughter, Lisa Ann Lirette; and daughter-in-law, Wanda Naquin Lirette. Dewey was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a staff sergeant during the liberation of the Philippines during World War II. He also served in the Occupational Army in Japan and while serving his country he received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Victory Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), and two overseas service bars. He was a member of the VFW and also a past Commander of Post No. 9608. He was also a member of the American Legion, Council on Aging, and Ward Seven Citizens Club. He loved fishing, story telling, reading and playing with his grandchildren. Druis had a special devotion to our Blessed Mother and to the recitation of the Rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorial Masses are requested to be said in his memory at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin.
