Joseph Robert Viteaux, 84, died Friday, December 19, 2014 at 2:02AM. He was a native of Bourg, LA and resident of Houma, LA. Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 23, 2014 from 8:30 AM until Service time at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM following the visitation. Interment will be at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery. He is survived by his sons, Bobby M. and Barbara Testroet Viteaux of Fort Worth, Tx, Randall J. and Anne Fanguy Viteaux of Houma and Mark H. and Janet Guidry Viteaux of Houma, granddaughters, Courtney Elise Viteaux Byles and husband TPSO Sgt Brandon Byles of Houma, Abbey Elizabeth Viteaux of Houma and Caroline Megan Viteaux of Fort Worth, TX, grandson, Colin Michael Viteaux of Fort Worth, TX, great granddaughters, Isabella Kate and Clarissa Jo Byles of Houma, LA, brother, Charles "JC" Viteaux and wife Glenda Hebert Viteaux of Houma; sisters, Marylee Viteaux Buquet and husband Clyde Buquet and Jeanette Viteaux of Houma. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Theresa Jeanette Lirette Viteaux, daughters, Sharon Lee Viteaux, Sandra Ann Viteaux, parents, Elie J. Viteaux and Corinne A LeBoeuf Viteaux, brothers, Herbert, Allie and Henry Viteaux, grandparents, Felix and Elizabeth Guillot Viteaux and Augustin and Felicity Marcel. He was born and raised on Hope Farm Plantation in Bourg, La. He worked in the sugar cane fields with his family and friends till the age of 18. He then went to work for Autin’s Packing Company until he was 21 years old. He then enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War. He returned home to marry Jeanette Lirette of Chauvin. Together they built a home and raised 5 children in Houma. He retired from Evangeline Maid Bread after 37-1/2 years. He continued to be active and productive in retirement working as a truck driver and deliver man for Veracity Machine in Gray till his passing. He spent his free time visiting with family, friends and relatives. He loved talking Cajun French and discussing family, politics and world events with everyone.
