Lucille "Lucy" Picou Porche, 96, a native and resident of Houma, passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, surrounded by her daughters and close friend.
Relatives and friends are invited at attend a memorial gathering from 11 a.m. until funeral time Monday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery I.
She was the beloved wife of the late Aaron Henry Porche; mother of Paula, married to the late Wayne Riche', and Connie, married to Walter Albert; grandchildren, Todd Riche', married to Katie Witry, and Christopher Albert, engaged to Katherine Rowan; one great-grandchild, Lucy Cate Riche';a second great-grandchild due in September; and her close friend, Charlene Chapman.Lucy was born to the late Melina LeCompte and Alidore Picou, Jan. 5, 1918.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marsan, Isidore, Bruce, Easton, and Webb.
A lifetime resident of Houma, Lucy enjoyed her volunteer work at Terrebonne General Medical Center for 30 years, where she contributed more than 15,000 hours of service.Lucy was an officer with the Affiliated Blind organization. She was named Volunteer of the Year at Both TGMC and at the Affiliated Blind of Houma. Lucy was a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters. She was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. She also enjoyed crocheting and playing cards.
The family would like to thank the staff at Homestead and Bayou Home Care for all their help. They appreciate everything they have done to assist with caring for Lucy.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial Masses or memorial donations in her name to any charity.
