Katie Louise Barrios Crowe, 89 of Lockport Louisiana
Dies September 9, 2014
Katie was born March 7, 1925 and raised in Lockport, Louisiana. The daughter of Camile C Barrios and Anita Boudreaux Barrios, she grew up in a busy household filled with 8 siblings: Brothers Manny, Harry, Mac, Louis, Jimmy, and Hank, and two sisters, Edna Barrios and Mildred F(Ferguson).
She married Jerome Judson Crowe Jr. (Jerry) in January 1943 during World War II. After World War II and the Korean War, they raised a son, Jerome Judson Crowe III, and the three made life an adventure living in many cities across the country including Birmingham, AL, Washington DC, Norfolk, VA, Houston, TX, Denver, CO, Dallas, TX, Indianapolis, IN, and Atlanta Ga, eventually retiring in Houma, LA. A talented decorator, she loved color and design and each time they moved she left behind evidence of her vibrant personality and unmistakable talent, as well as many friends with whom she kept in touch throughout the years.
At age 40, Katie was inspired to try her hand at art. She bought a few brushes, oil paints, and canvases and taught herself to paint, quickly becoming an accomplished artist. She received great joy from gifting her work to friends and family, but often sold it. She returned to Lockport in 1982, living many happy years with the love of her life, Jerry. Together they enjoyed many years singing and cheering their son’s alma mater, the University of Alabama. Katie spent many hours studying home interiors in Architectural Digest and other publications, and would apply that design inspiration to her own surroundings. If friends were lucky enough, she might arrive on occasion with ideas, furnishings, and accessories to enhance their homes, as well.
She leaves behind the son she loved more than life, Jerome Judson Crowe III (Jud) of Annandale, VA, two adoring grandsons, Judson R Crowe and Alexander L Crowe of Tulsa, OK, and her surviving brother, Henry Barrios of Lockport, LA.
