Robert (Bobby) Joseph Acosta, Jr., 84, a native and resident of Houma, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2014 after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 9:45 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral at 11:30 a.m., with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Imelda LeBoeuf Acosta; daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Allyson) Levett and Mrs. C. Berwick (Alexis) Duval, II; sister, Janet A. Roshto of Denham Springs; Grandchildren, Stacy Flynn Schliewe and husband, Scott of Baton Rouge, Stanwood Robert Duval and wife Megan of Houma, Farah Flynn Thompson of Houma, Errin Flynn of Baton Rouge, Claiborne Berwick Duval and wife Addie of Houma; Great-grandchildren Jack, Grant and Helen Schliewe, Sydney and Blair Thompson, Cameron, Luke and Jude Duval; as well as numerous nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joseph Acosta and Maria LeBlanc Acosta; and sister Alberta Acosta Turner. Bobby was a member of the 1947 graduating class of St. Francis de Sales Academy and attended SLI in Lafayette. As a lifetime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales he was an active member serving as an altar server and an usher. In addition he served over fifty years in the Knights of Columbus and was ultimately granted Honorary Membership status. Due to his unwavering dedication to his faith and family he continued to immerse himself in numerous activities that his wife and daughters were involved in. One such result of this dedication and generosity culminated in his induction to the Vandebilt Catholic High’s Hall of Fame. Bobby retired from Texaco as a production supervisor during his 40th year of employment with the company. During those years he was blessed to develop meaningful friendships and memories which lasted throughout his life.
