Jerome Michael Theriot, local musician, composer, and teacher, died at age 48 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born June 1, 1966 and was a lifelong resident of Terrebonne Parish. He graduated from South Terrebonne High School and earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Nicholls State University and Master of Music degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. He attended the U. S. Navy School of Music and served six years as a member of the United States Navy Band, stationed at Eighth U. S. Naval District in Algiers, Louisiana and U. S. Naval Sixth Fleet in Naples, Italy.
Jerome taught Gifted and Talented high school musicians in the Terrebonne Parish School System. He was accomplished at playing saxophone, clarinet, flute, piano, keyboards and drums and played with several local and New Orleans bands. He was a composer of jazz music. Two albums of his jazz compositions have been published and several will be recorded in the near future.
Jerome is survived by parents Ronnie J. and Rebecca Fournerette Theriot, brothers Brian and Stephen Theriot, sister-in-law Kelly Barton Theriot, nephew Henri Theriot, niece Adele Theriot, uncles Julius Theriot, Philip Cooper, and Louis Medal, aunts Shirlene Theriot Cooper, Catherine Theriot Medal, and Diane Brien, cousins Dr. Catherine Cooper Katzenmeyer, Eric Theriot, Dean Theriot, Jill Theriot, Michelle Medal, Daniel Medal, and Benjamin Medal, and Godmother Patricia Larose.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Hamlet and Bertha Sedotal Fournerette and Eustis and Beatrice Cuneo Theriot, uncle and Godfather Gail Theriot and cousin Mark Theriot.
Jerome requested: “If anyone asks how I want to be remembered, please say the following about me: He loved JESUS and was grateful for the life GOD gave him. He loved his family and friends.”
Jerome will be sorely missed by his family, pastor, students, teachers, fellow musicians, valued friends, all who have heard and enjoyed his music, and all who knew and loved him.
Sincere appreciation is extended to the doctors and staffs of M. D. Anderson Medical Center, East Jefferson General Hospital, and Terrebonne General Medical Center for their expert care and genuine compassion.
Visitation will be held at the Chauvin Funeral Home Chapel from 9:00 A. M. until 10:30 A. M. Monday, July 28, 2014 with a memorial service immediately following.
