Gustave Anthony Marie Sr., 96, a native of Montegut and resident of Chauvin, died at 10:08 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2014. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma and from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in St. Elie Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bernice "Suzie" Gautreaux Marie; daughter, Inga Marie Boudreaux; grandchildren, Sabra Boudreaux and wife, Kelly, Susan Holmes and husband, Ken, Staff Sgt. Robert Boudreaux (USAF), and Michael Boudreaux and wife, Ashley; great-grandchildren, Private First Class Geoffrey Boudreaux (U.S. Army), Airman First Class Emily Boudreaux (USAF), Stephanie Boudreaux, Johnathan Holmes and wife, Rachel, and Taylor Holmes and wife, Ashley; son: Gus "Gusto" Marie Jr. and wife, Sandra; grandchildren, Francie Marie Desormeaux and husband, Casey, Gustave "Butch" Marie III and wife, Jenny, Kyle Marie and wife, Danielle, Tony Marie and wife, Sara, JoLee Marie Alleman and husband, Joey, and Cheri' Marie and fiance, Chris Corbin; and great-grandchildren, Jules Desormeaux, Gustave "Anthony" Marie IV, Matt Marie, Samantha Marie, Harper Marie, Zoe Marie, Justin Marie, Austin Marie, Gage Alleman, Simon Pellegrin II, Jai Marie, Jason Corbin, and Grant Corbin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Marie and Cecile Domangue Marie; infant daughter, Suzie Marie; infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Mary Boudreaux; infant great-granddaughter, Rebecca Nicole Boudreaux; brothers, Morris "Kiv" Marie, Oris "Pachon" Marie, Norris "Toot" Marie, and Oneil Marie Sr.; and sisters, Oneilia "Da" M. King, Ezar Dupre, Winona Voisin, and Julia Marie Blanchard. Gustave was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He owned the Harbor Light Inn for 30 years and was a life member of the VFW Post No. 9608, American Legion Post No. 380, Montegut Lions Club, and Ward 7 Citizens Club.He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He also served in northern France, Germany, and central Europe during World War II. After fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, he worked as an interpreter for a commander serving under Gen. George S. Patton.He was honorably discharged in September 1945 and was given a Presidential Citation, World War II Victory Medal, Germany Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal with a Silver Star, American Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and a Rifleman Sharpshooter Medal.He was honored at the New Orleans D-Day Museum, and the American Legion honored him as the oldest Legion member in Louisiana.
