Cleveland Joseph “Bubba” Matherne, Sr, 93, a native and resident of Houma, went home at 6:45AM, April 6, 2014.
Visitation will be from 8:00AM until funeral time on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Service will be at 10:00AM on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at church with a burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by four daughters, Karen Matherne Dupre and husband, Douglas, of Houma, Susan Matherne Goodreau and husband James, of Macungie, Pennsylvania, Connie Matherne Torres and husband, Ted of Houma, and Renee Matherne Fanguy and husband Gary, of Houston, Texas; one son Cleveland Joseph “Buzzy” Matherne Jr. and wife Genie, of Miami, Florida; one sister Rita Mae Perrin of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Rhea Chauvin Matherne; his parents Corelia Grabert Matherne Pertuit and Cyprien J. Matherne; one brother, Layton Matherne, Sr.; one sister, Ethel Matherne Leonard and three grandchildren, Sean Thomas Goodreau, Kevin Douglas Goodreau and Edward Paul Dupre.
He was a WWII veteran; a founding member and active participant of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church; and a charter/life member of St. Gregory Knights of Columbus 6170. “Bubba” was an avid fisherman and hunter.
