Henry Joseph Chenier Sr., 80, a native of Vacherie and resident of Houma, died at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008.
Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Prayer service will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his wife, Ethelyn Chenier; one son, Henry Chenier Jr. and wife, Barbara; two daughters, Diane Vito and companion, Dennis LeBeouf, and Suzanne Cummins and husband, Allan; three sisters, Lois Chenier, Rose Duhe and Grace Kliebert and husband, Buhel; eight grandchildren, Chad Bridges and wife, Wendy, Duane Chenier and wife, Melissa, James Lirette Jr. and wife, Lindsay, Sheri Lirette, Jeffrey Chenier, Jeremy Chenier, Christie Pellegrin and husband, Beau, and Joey Chenier; and five great-grandchildren, Troy Chenier, Amber Chenier, Chase Bridges, Keegan Pellegrin and Mackenzie Bridges.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Horstense Ockmand Chenier.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 1317 and the American Legion and was a U.S. Navy and Marine veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
