Ray Joseph Samanie, 68, a native of Gray and a resident of Bayou Blue, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Dupre Samanie of Gray; two sons, Barry Samanie Sr. and wife, Lisa, of Schriever, and Glenn Samanie and wife, Mona, of Bayou Black; two daughters, Donna Breaux and husband, Peter, and Lisa Foret of Bayou Blue; one brother, Floyd Samanie of Houma; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy Paul Samanie Sr. and Angele Hebert Samanie; four brothers, Lionel Samanie, Ivy Samanie Jr., Julius Samanie and Emile "Bill" Samanie; three sisters, Hilda Carroll, Vivian Breaux and Cleon Morgan; and one grandson, Barry "B.J." Samanie Jr.
He was a retired service supervisor with Schlumberger Well Services for 26 years, and an usher with St. Louis Catholic Church.
