Raised as the daughter of farmers, Iona loved the land and cultivating vegetables. Even late in her life, she could often be found in her yard, planting vegetables and tending her personal garden. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family. It brought her great joy to find distant relations and discover connections between people and family that no one else knew existed. She was raised speaking French and learned English when she started first grade. In her last years of life, she spent her time teaching French to her great-grandchildren and telling them stories of times long ago that made up her many memories.
