Lula “Dean” Bernadine Hamby Cancienne, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at 8:00 AM. She was a native of Greer, SC and resident of Gibson, LA. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc. and Friday, April 5, 2013 from 9:00 AM until service time at First United Methodist Church Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Bayou Black Cemetery She is survived by her sons, Wayne Cancienne and wife Jan, Houma, LA, Claude J. Cancienne, Jr. and wife Lois, Mississippi, daughters, Dolores Taylor and husband Dave, Ocala, FL, Denise Pepperman, Chalmette, LA, grandchildren, Norman Taylor, Chris Cancienne, Shawn Duet, Amanda Cancienne Bortko, Amber Cancienne, Robbie Pepperman, five great grandchildren, brother, Jack Hamby and wife Carolyn, sister, Derleith Hamby. She was preceded in death by her, husband, Claude J. Cancienne, Sr., parents, George and Nannie Hamby, brothers, George Hamby, J.D. Hamby, Lacy Hamby, Doyle Hamby, Ebb Hamby. Dean was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member and past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women. She volunteered for twenty five years in nursing homes and the V.A. Clinic where she was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2010. She was also awarded Person of the Year at First United Methodist Church. She was a great softball coach for girls in the late 60's and early 70's. She enjoyed bowling and traveling. She sewed really well and loved Saints and LSU Football. She was an avid reader. She loved cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.
