Saul Francis Landry, Jr. graduated from Tulane Medical School in June 1950, at the age of 21 and practiced internal medicine for 36 years. In 1956 he joined his father in the practice of medicine, and joined the staff of Terrebonne Parish General Hospital which consisted of 20 physicians. A devoted and passionate physician he regularly made house calls throughout his career.
He was chief of staff at Terrebonne Parish General Hospital in 1970, Coroner of Terrebonne Parish for 22 years (1958-1980), member of Terrebonne Parish Medical Society, Southern Medical Association, Louisiana Medical Society and the AMA.
He was a veteran of the Korean war. He served in Japan at the US Navy Hospital Yokuska, and with the Marines at Camp Fisher in Kyoto. He was promoted to full Lieutenant. He finished his service at the US Naval Hospital in San Diego.
He was a member of the Serra Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Houma-Terrebonne Carnival Club and Krewe of Christopher. He served on the boards of St. Francis de Sales School and Vandebilt Catholic High School. In recognition of his service to the church, he was awarded The Order of St. Louis in 1977 by the Archdiocese of New Orleans and he was honored by the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux in 1984 with the Bishop's Medal. He enjoyed fishing and was a voracious reader.
