HIDEO KOIKE, a native of Hawaii, and longtime resident of Houma, died at 12:55 PM, Wednesday March 13, 2013 at the age of 92.
He is survived by his daughter Donna Y. K. Bourg and husband Jeffery Bourg, sons Edgar Koike,
Kevin Koike and wife Lori, along with five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is
also survived by a brother Masao Koike, and sisters Elsie K. Honda and Nancy Koike, all of
Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 60 years, Takeko Iida Koike, parents Toshio and
Iwako Koike, and brothers Haruo and Hiroo Koike.
After earning a B.A. degree at the University of Hawaii, and both M.S and Ph.D. degrees at
Kansas State University, he went on to become an internationally known sugarcane pathologist,
with over 30 years of dedication to sugarcane disease research for both the USDA and United
Nations.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was also an active
member of the First United Methodist Church of Houma for many years.
A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Houma, 6109 Hwy. 311
on Sunday March 24. Visitation will be at 2 PM, followed by a service at 2:30.
