A loving husband, father, grandfather and retired pediatrician, he passed away peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2008 at Terrebonne General Hospital after a brief illness. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Tuesay, January 29th, 2008 and from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30th at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with burial at St. Francis Cemetery II. He was born in Gonzales, LA and graduated from St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans. He graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge and LSU Medical School in New Orleans. After completing his studies there, he married Jody Harper of Minden, LA. He completed 2 years of duty in the Air Force in Wichita Falls, Texas. Upon completion of his pediatric residency, he moved with his family to Houma, LA in 1961 where he began his private practice in pediatrics until his retirement in January 1996. Throughout his life he had a great love of God and family. As he said on the day he retired, he "wanted to fish, hunt, grow roses, and chase his grandchildren". He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardner. He loved sharing his havest of vegetables and roses with his neighbors, friends and family. A quiet, gentle and humble man, he treated all with kindness and respect. He is survived by Jody, his beloved wife of 51 years; six children: Mark Waggenspack, Mary Karam and husband, George, Beth Ruiz and husband, James, John Waggenspack, Susan Delaune and husband, Warner, Joan Chastain and husband, Sonny; two brothers and their wives: Laville and Betty Waggenspack and Dr. Clay and Augusta Waggenspack; one sister, Carmel Mask; and eighteen beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parent: Helene and Clay Waggenspack. He was involved in many civic and community activities. He served on the Board of Directors at Terrebonne General Hospital, was a volunteer at the Bayou Region Hospice, St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy, and served for over 20 years as the pediatrician at the Louis Infant Cenrter.
