Elaine Elizabeth Dupont Callahan, 79, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Religious service will be at noon Thursday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in St. Eloi Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Sidney Callahan of Houma; three sons, Reed Callahan and wife, Lynette Thibodeaux Callahan, of Houma, Barney Callahan and wife, Donna Samanie Callahan, of Gonzales and Mark Callahan and wife, Jennie Rhodes Callahan, of Houma; two brothers, Roy Dupont and Sterling Dupont of Luling; her former daughter-in-law, Regina B. Callahan of Gray; five grandchildren, Travis Callahan, Krista Callahan, Lora Callahan Armstrong and husband, Stephen, Katie Callahan and Abby Callahan; one great-grandchild, Luke Armstrong; two step-grandsons, Rudy Laris III and Dominic Hines; and one step-granddaughter, Rachael Bowman Hines and husband, Bryan, of Houma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul J. Dupont and Bridgette Ponville Dupont; one granddaughter, Erin Callahan; one brother, Ralph Dupont; four sisters, Gertrude Tippett, Adele Robichaux, Antonia Normington and Marguerite Becnel. She was a homemaker and a member of Council on Aging. She was a 1945 graduate of Terrebonne High School and worked for A & P Super Market and Yots Steak House No. 1. However, she was best known for her many years of service at Rivet’s Family Grocery. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. In her retirement years, she was an active volunteer at Shady Oaks Senior Citizens Center. She loved playing Bingo and Pokeeno with family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. She always said that when she got to Heaven she would have a kitchen big enough to cook and feed everybody. She will be missed tremendously by family and friends. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.
