Frances Trabue McCoy Alexander, 86, a native of Shreveport and a resident of Houma, died at her home 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 243 Barrow St., Houma. Funeral service will be at noon Monday at the church.
She is survived by three sons, Herbert Rives Alexander Jr., Robert McCoy Alexander and wife Suzanne, Karl Timmins Alexander and wife Shelley; 11 grandchildren, Trey Alexander and wife Dawn, Randall Decker Alexander and wife Lisa, Susan Alexander Hentze and husband Brett, Sarah Alexander Haydel and husband Darren, Hays McCoy Alexander Sr. and wife Amanda, Blair Alexander May and husband Wade, Brooke Alexander Johnson and husband Tory, Whitney Laborde Alexander, Melissa Walker Fitzgerald and husband Bryan, Elizabeth Walker Pou and husband Jack, and Catherine Ruth Walker. She is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, Jackson Rives Alexander, Ava Mary Alexander, Ian Randall Herbert Alexander, William Rives Alexander, Mary Morgan Alexander, Alexander Matthew Hentze, Harrison Rives Hentze, Brooke Ashley Haydel, Katie Blair Haydel, Morgan Elizabeth Haydel, Hays McCoy Alexander Jr., Granison Rives Alexander, Eleanor Bel Alexander, Charlotte Elizabeth May, Frances Trabue May, Charles McCoy Fitzgerald, Carter Moore Fitzgerald, Rives Allen Johnson, Jack Walker Pou; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Herbert Rives Alexander Sr.; her brother, Karl Franz McCoy Jr.; and two sisters, Eleanor Gray McCoy Magner, and Rose Audrey McCoy Thomas.
Mrs. Alexander was born July 31, 1921, in Shreveport. She was a member of the class of 1938 at C.E. Byrd High School, then graduated from Louisiana State University. While at LSU, she was a varsity cheerleader and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Mrs. Alexander and her husband, Herb, lived in New Orleans, Houma, Trinidad and Houston while he worked for Texaco, Alexander Petroleum Consultants and as an independent oil operator for Herbert R. Alexander Inc.
She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church Vestry, the Ellendale Country Club, and the Ellendale Country Club Ladies Golf Association. Mrs. Alexander was a 37-year breast cancer survivor.
Mrs. Alexander’s family owes a debt of gratitude to all who cared so diligently during her illness: Lou Dolan, Nathaniel Ward, Barbara Cullen, Loyman Scurlock, Carolyn Rose, Winifred Vergin, Dr. Russell Henry, Dr. Ralph Bourgeois and Dr. Rick Abben.
