Irving Thomas "Shake" Schexnayder, 85, a native of Vacherie and resident of Houma, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Prejean Schexnayder; one son, Thomas Michael Schexnayder; two daughters, Anita "Jr." Schexnayder Aiken and husband, Thomas Nelson Aiken, and Gale Schexnayder Moch and husband, E.J. "Jerry" Moch Jr.; two grandchildren, Jacob Edward Moch and Alexandra Prejean Moch, of Houston; and four brothers, Harold, Norris, Clifton and Edgar Schexnayder, all of Houma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alba Waguespack Schexnayder and Edgard Schexnayder; and one sister, Carole Ann Schexnayder.
He was a former Houma City councilman and a retired assistant Chief of Police. He served in World War II and while in North Africa, he was awarded the Army’s Soldiers Medal for non-combat heroism by Gen. Dwight Eisenhower.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
