Maurice Gerald Rome, 80, a native and resident of Houma, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time Monday at Annunziata Catholic Church. Mass will be at 1 p.m. at the church, with burial in St. Francis No. 1 Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Yves LeBlanc Rome; five daughters, Beth Larke and husband, James, Isabelle Tabor and husband, Thomas, Becky Whitney and husband, Michael, Aimee Leckelt and husband, Keith, and Angie Walsh and husband, Tim; three sons, Maurice “Jerry” Rome and wife Yvonne, Philip Rome and wife, Tammy, and Edward Rome and wife, Connie; 16 grandchildren, Melissa Larke Lawrence, Sarah, James and Jeffery Larke, Jeri Ann and Gerald Rome, Zachary, Kacie and Joshua Rome, Rebecca and Isabelle Tabor, Anna Wheeler, Emma Whitney and Nicholas, Christopher and Charlotte Rome; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Alex Lawrence; one sister, Shirley Watkins; and three sisters-in-law, Myrtle Rome, Grace Rome and Jackie Rome.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Homer Rome and Agnes Gaudet Rome; one son, Stephen Matthew Rome, two sisters, Virgie Broussard and Margaret Kohnke; three brothers, George Jr., Harding and Gerald Rome; and three brothers-in-law, Elmo Broussard, Peter Kohnke and Judge Louis Watkins.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines. He founded and opened Bayou Marine Corp. and remained active until his death. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening and reading.
He treasured time spent with his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to T.A.R.C., any local Catholic school, South Terrebonne High or Immaculate Conception Cathedral School in Lake Charles.
