Roy E. Cunningham, 74, a native of Little Caillou and resident of Houma, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Earline Poiencot Cunningham of Houma; six daughters, Merrill Pellegrin and husband, Rickie, of Thibodaux, Christine Bergeron and husband, Spencer Sr., of Houma, Donna Abbe and husband, Mark, of Albuquerque, N.M., Vickie Owens, Linda Malbrough and husband, Monty, and Amy Sewell and husband, Bob, of Houma; two stepsons, Joseph Cangelosi Jr. and companion, Angela, and Edward Cangelosi and wife, Amber, of Houma; one stepdaughter, Angela Hebert and husband, Ricky, of Houma; four brothers, Philip Cunningham, Kenneth Cunningham, Clay Cunningham of Houma and Tony Cunningham of Baker; three sisters, Grace Robichaux of Georgia, Janell Boudreaux of Baker and Linda Duplantis of Houma; 17 grandchildren, Crissy Pellegrin Sammarco and husband, Dustin, Kitzi Pellegrin, Kazlie Kay Pellegrin, Spencer James Bergeron Jr. and companion, Nancy Garner, Brandi Bergeron and companion, Felton Short, Devin Canafax and wife, Crystal, Nicholas Canafax, Eric Canafax, Todd Abbe, Jaime Owens, Aaron Wheeler, Kami Wheeler, Wesley Wheeler, Courtney Leonard, Amber Malbrough, Jordan Sewell and Jesslyn Daisy Sewell; seven great-grandchildren, Brayden Bergeron, Falon Short, Baby Canafax, Megan Leonard, Bethany Leonard, Lacey Leonard and Matthew Leonard; and eight step-grandchildren, Stephanie Cangelosi, Cynthia Cangelosi, Sarah Cangelosi, Katie Hebert, Joseph Hebert, Courtney Cangelosi, Brock Cangelosi and Brody Cangelosi. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy Pitre Cunningham; his parents, Armond Justin Cunningham Sr. and Aimee LeCompte Cunningham; three brothers, Louis Cunningham, Julius Cunningham and Armond “Sonny” Cunningham Jr.; and one sister, Barbara Lovell. He was a retired shipbuilder and owner of Terrebonne Ship Builders. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree and treasurer. He was a loving husband and loving father to six girls. To his grandchildren he was the brightest star in the sky, a wonderful inspiration and mentor to many, and he was a hard worker. He was a parishioner and usher at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
