Eddie Joseph Toups, 85, a native of Valentine and resident of Bayou Blue, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sadie Martin Toups of Bayou Blue; two sons, Ronald P. Toups and wife, Phyllis, of Houma and Glenn A. Toups and wife, Sydney, of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter, Denise T. Bourg and husband, Mitchel, of Bayou Blue; 10 grandchildren, Alyson Toups, Tracey Hebert, Ronald "Bo" Toups Jr., Lottie Toups, Vanessa Trosclair, Elizabeth Strousser, Gretchen Pleasant, Christopher Toups, Brad Voclain and Brenda Bourg; and five great-grandchildren, Hunter Toups, Madelyn Hebert, Landon Trosclair, Rachel Pleasant and Amber Hebert; one godchild, Janice Vice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Toups Sr. and Alice Barrios Toups; one daughter, Brenda A. Toups; four brothers, Hayward Toups, Oscar Toups Jr., Leonard Toups Sr. and Ernest Toups Sr.; and one sister, Eula Theriot.
He was a retired heavy-equipment operator with the Department of Transportation and Development and a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Toups, Glenn Toups, Mitchel Bourg, Christopher Toups, Buck Theriot and Ronald "Bo" Toups Jr.; and honorary pallbearers are Ernest Toups Jr., Cary Vice, Brad Voclain, Darryl Hebert, Byron Trosclair, John Strousser and Brandon Pleasant.
