Pearl Marie Marcello Coyle, 81, a native of St. Charles Community near Thibodaux and a resident of Galveston, Texas, and former resident of Houma for more than 58 years, died Friday Aug. 17, 2007, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Don H. Coyle of Galveston; two sons, Randy Coyle and wife, Claire, of Galveston, and Gregory Coyle and wife, Michelle, of Lafayette; two daughters, Mary Roden and husband, George, of Galveston and Marcella Coyle of Batesville, Miss.; three sisters, Rose Caballero of Houma, Jean Haydel of Houma and Iona Bergeron of Thibodaux; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mary Marcello; and two sisters, Priscilla Marcello Robichaux and Kate Marcello Verret.
She was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Thibodaux as the fourth of six daughters born to Sam and Mary Marcello. She graduated from Southwestern Institute of Technology, now University of Louisiana Lafayette, with a degree in education. She started teaching in 1946 and taught at Terrebonne High School for 30 years with an unselfish dedication to her job. She was head girls’ basketball coach at Terrebonne High School and a cheerleader sponsor.
She was a devout Catholic and active member of St. Francis de Sales Parish. She also volunteered at Southdown Museum.
She was a devout wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother creating fond memories for all. She will be remembered by family and friends as a woman of great kindness and compassion to all she met.
