Malvin Pierre Neil, 84, a native of Pointe-aux-Chenes and longtime resident of Houma, died Thursday, July 19, 2007.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Leblanc Neil; one brother, Jerry Neil; one sister, Mable Neil Naquin; two sons, Timothy Neil and Daniel Neil and wife, Gwynne Neil; three daughters, Suzette Neil Carreker and husband, Herbert, Patricia Neil Hutchinson and husband, Craig, and Mary Neil; six grandchildren, Michelle Carreker Patin, Rene Carreker, Paul Carreker, Stacie Fanguy, Parker Hutchinson and Sean Neil; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Patin and Lindsey Carreker.
He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Rita Crochet Neil; four brothers, Evans "White" Neil, Howard Neil, Ira Neil and Dewey Neil; two sisters, Magnolia Neil and Lisa Neil; and his parents, Joseph and Vagnolia Neil.
He joined the U.S. Marines at 17 and served his country honorably during World War II and fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. After 30 years of employment with Texaco, he retired to enjoy gardening, fishing and volunteering with the United Veterans League. As a member of its Honor Guard, he served as a rifleman at the funerals of his fellow veterans.
