Dan J. Powell Sr., 72, a native and resident of Houma, died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2007.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Friday at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his former wife, Bonnie Whipple of Bourg; two sons, Dan J. Powell Jr. and wife, Angelle, of Gray and Chad Powell and family of Bayou Blue; one daughter, Gwen Powell of Bourg; two brothers, Don Powell of Houma and Eddie Powell of Houston; one sister, Geri Bonvillain of Houma; and three grandchildren, Lauren Rau, Cereline’ Powell and Devin Powell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey E. Powell and Beulah Pontiff Powell; and his grandparents, Wicliff and Clara Blanchard Pontiff and Edward and Lena Prejean Powell.
He was a retired banker for 30 years at American Bank and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a former member of the Krewe of Hercules, an honorary lifetime member of the Selucrey Sophisticats and was an avid fisherman.
He was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church.
