Norris Joseph Samanie, 83, a native and resident of Bayou Blue, died at 11:58 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 8:30 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Adeline Gaubert Samanie of Bayou Blue; two sons, Carroll Samanie and wife, Mercedes, of Thibodaux and Larry Samanie and wife, Alice, of Labadieville; three daughters, Juanita Pennison and husband, Timothy, Katherine Deroche and husband, Ivy Jr., of Houma and Cindy Samanie and fiancé, Patrick Dupre, of Bayou Blue; four sisters, Hazel Darcey of Bayou Blue, Evadence Boudreaux of Thibodaux, Oris Maronge of Bayou Cane and Gloria Naquin of Bayou Blue; 10 grandchildren, Tricia Samanie Johnson and husband, David, Stephanie Samanie, Dawn Samanie Lamkins, Ron Samanie, Christine Samanie Blanchard and husband, Jeffery, Megan Samanie, Stacie Pennison, Eric Deroche and wife, Dawn, Kayla Deroche and fiance’, Walter LeBlanc, and Keith Kraemer; and seven great-grandchildren, Blake Johnson, Emily Johnson, Trymaine Samanie, Travon Williams, Aleah Williams, Dylan Lamkins and Matthew Blanchard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adney Paul Samanie and Ernestine Hebert Samanie; two brothers, Enest "Fatso" Samanie and Alton Paul Samanie; and four sisters, Myrtle Ledet, Bridget Babin, Mildred LeBlanc and Lena Daigle.
He was a retired employee of Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government and was a longtime farmer who enjoyed raising cattle and maintaining a vegetable garden.
He was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church.
