Joseph "Papa Joe" Colbert Richard, 73, a native of Labadieville and resident of Dulac, died at 7:14 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by three sons, Gerard Richard of Dulac, Dwayne Richard of Houma and Stephen Richard Sr. and wife, Lisa, of Houma; two daughters, Angele R. Dominique and husband, Herman, of Bourg and Celena R. Theriot and husband, Todd, of Dulac; one sister, Ethel Richard Diaz and husband, Norman, of Labadieville; 14 grandchildren, Tamika Richard, Shane Verdin, Austin Richard, Brennan Richard, Seth Richard, Stephanie Richard, Ashley Cope, Stefan "S.J." Richard Jr., Andrea Richard, Kullen Fregeau and husband, Nathan, Trent Theriot, Hobie Dominique, and twins, Brea Dominique and Brooke Dominique; two step-grandchildren, Lindsey Parfait and Dustin Parfait; six great-grandchildren, Shai Guidry, Dayton Guidry, Jaden Guidry, Lerin Fregeau, Magen Fregeau and Baby Cameron Fregeau; and three former daughters-in-laws, Laura B. Clement, Michelle D. Collins and Liz M. Richard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Pete Richard and Octavia Hebert Richard; two brothers, Anthony "Nookie" Richard and Daniel Richard; and one sister, Rose Richard Rivet.
He was a retired coffee salesman for Golden Key Coffee, owned and operated New Hope Amusement Center, and was a Hubig Pies salesman and C & L Cigarette.
He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church.
