Marguerite Clare Geist Roper, 92, a native of New Orleans, LA and resident of Houma, LA died Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Visitation will be from 9:00am to service time on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Burial at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery #2. She is survived by sons, John E. Roper, Jr. and wife Belinda Gasper, Houston, TX, Michael W. Roper and wife Jami Ford, Conroe, TX; daughter, Sally Portier and husband Ron, Houma, LA; grandchildren, Timothy Portier and wife Ashley, Michelle Portier, Koxville, TN, Marianne Portier, Knoxville, TN, Melissa Newbould and husband Arthur, Cypress, TX, Robert Roper and wife Darla Whisenhunt, Houston, TX, Cali Roper, Conroe, TX, Michael John Roper, Houma, LA; great grandchildren, Adrienne Portier, Jacob Portier, Destiney Portier, David King, Mason Newbould, Blake Newbould, Brynn Roper; one great great grandchild, sister, Rosemary Porche, Houma, LA, brothers, Oswald Geist and wife Catherine Shepherd, Houma, LA, Lloyd Geist and wife Marilyn Rivers, Gray, LA, Adolphe Geist and wife Philetta Gautreaux, Houma, LA. She was preceded in death by husband, John Emmett Roper; parents, Karl Geist and Lucille Troendle Geist; grandparents, Adolphe Troendle and Georgina Spor Troendle, Franz Anton Geist and Mathilda Benz Geist and brother in law Charles Porche. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She was a Secretary for the Lafourche-Terrebonne Soil and Water Conservation District for 27 years. Marguerite was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Terrebonne Chapter of AARP, The Regional Military Museum, a charter member of the National World War II Museum and a founding member and charter member of the Ladies Carnival Club. She was also a former member of the Krewe of Flames and the Stinker's Club of Houma. She was a world traveler.
